Ynsect는 증가하는 단백질 소비에 대해 건강하고 지속가능한 솔루션을 제공하고자 장기적인 전략을 시행하고 있다. 지난 1월에 유럽식품안전청(European Food Safety Authority)이 밀웜 섭취가 인체에 무해하다는 판단을 내린 후, Ynsect는 식용 곤충 성분에서 추출한 식품 시장으로 확장을 도모하고 있다.

Ynsect는 프랑스 시설 외에, 암스테르담에서 동쪽으로 한 시간 거리에 있는 에르멜로 기반의 네덜란드 생산시설 Protifarm의 통합으로 국제적인 확장을 단행하고 있다. Ynsect는 이를 통해 세계 최대의 곤충 식품 및 사료 업체라는 회사의 입지를 강화하고 있다.

네덜란드의 최첨단 수직 농장에서 생산되는 농산물은 식품 성분 기준으로 연간 1,000미터톤이 넘는다. Ynsect는 두 곳에서 생산시설을 운영 중이며, 현재 한 곳이 건설 중이다. 그런 만큼, 앞으로 생산량이 증가하고, 고객을 위한 생산 및 배송 속도가 빨라질 전망이다.

Ynsect와 Protifarm은 밀웜에 대한 과학과 기술에 접근하는 방식부터 품질과 운영 우수성에 이르기까지 이미 여러 가지 공통점이 있다. Protifarm은 곤충 배양 부문에서 약 40년 동안 경험을 쌓았으며, 10개 부문에서 37건의 특허를 보유하고 있다. 이로써 Ynsect가 보유하는 총특허 수는 거의 300건에 달한다.

Ynsect accelerates its international expansion with the acquisition of Dutch AgTech business Protifarm, as it scales into the market for human food ingredients made from insects

PARIS, April 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Ynsect, the world leader in natural insect protein, has acquired Protifarm, the global leader in mealworm ingredients for human food applications. Their joint offering will accelerate manufacturing capabilities with a third production site, as the company move to deliver on its long-term strategy to offer a healthy, sustainable solution to the accelerating consumption of protein. Following the European Food Safety Authority deeming mealworms safe for human consumption this January, Ynsect is expanding into the market of food ingredients derived from insect ingredients for humans.

In addition to its sites in France, Ynsect now expands internationally with the integration of Protifarm, a Dutch production site based in Ermelo, one hour east of Amsterdam. This solidifies the company's position as the world's largest insect food and feed player.

The Dutch state-of-the-art vertical farm produces more than 1,000 metric tons of food ingredients annually. With two Ynsect production sites in operation and one under construction, the result is an increase in volume and accelerated production and delivery to customers.

Ynsect and Protifarm already share a lot of common ground, from the way they approach science and technology on mealworms, to quality and operational excellence. Protifarm brings nearly 40 years of experience in insect breeding and owns 37 patents across 10 categories, bringing the total number of patents owned by Ynsect to nearly 300.
